Description

Dwarf- Rhapis Excelsa – Lady Finger Palm

Lady Finger Palm (Dwarf- Rhapis Excelsa) is a great air purifier, Low maintenance indoor house plant with fan-like fronds that are shiny and glossy green leaves.

Lady palms are native to China and are among the easiest palms to grow. These palms, also known as Rhapis excelsa, rose to prominence as a feature in Japanese palaces before spreading to Europe and America in the 1770s and 1850s, respectively. Rhapis Excelsa (Lady Finger Palm) is a tiny palm that grows in thick bunches of thin upright green stems. Fan-shaped, glossy green fronds with five to eight narrow, lance-shaped segments grow on the stems. This palm is popular as a houseplant since it is exceptionally tolerant of low-light settings. It grows best in the spring, at the start of the growth season. Although houseplants can be started all year. This palm grows at a somewhat modest rate, gaining less than a foot in height every year.

Care Tips for Lady Finger Palm:-

  1. Light: Lady Finger Palms prefer bright, indirect light. Avoid placing them in direct sunlight as it can scorch their leaves. A spot near a north or east-facing window with filtered light is ideal. If your plant is receiving too little light, it may become leggy and slow-growing.
  2. Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Water the plant when the top inch of the soil feels dry to the touch. Be sure to use a well-draining potting mix and a pot with drainage holes to prevent root rot. During the colder months, reduce the frequency of watering as the plant’s growth slows down.
  3. Humidity: Rhapis Excelsa appreciates higher humidity levels. You can increase humidity around the plant by misting it regularly, placing a tray of water near it, or using a humidifier. This helps prevent the tips of the leaves from browning and promotes overall health.
  4. Temperature: These palms thrive in average indoor temperatures ranging from 65-80°F (18-27°C). Avoid exposing the plant to drafts or sudden temperature fluctuations, as they can stress the plant.
  5. Fertilization: Feed your Lady Finger Palm with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce or stop fertilization during the fall and winter months when the plant’s growth slows down.
