Description

Philodendron Brasil | Philo. Scandens Variegated

The Philodendron Scandens Variegata is a beautiful vining plant with heart-shaped broad foliage with golden splashy stripes across the green leaf. This plant is easy to care for and with its ability to live in low light conditions, makes an amazing choice for an indoor house plant.

This is one of the most common houseplants. But certain houseplants become popular for a reason! Personally, I’d much rather have a well-grown specimen of a common houseplant than a tiny little rare plant.

Plant Requirements

  • Light- Philodendron Scandens thrive in medium indirect light to dappled sun. They also tolerate lower light environments but will grow slower than in brighter conditions. Prolonged exposure to bright direct sunlight may burn and scorch their leaves.
  • Water- Your Philodendron enjoys weekly watering sessions, allowing its soil to completely dry out between waterings to prevent overwatering and root rot. During the winter months feel free to water your Philodendron less frequently, adjusting to let it dry out fully.
  • Humidity- Philodendron Scandens do not have any particular humidity requirements.
  • Temperature- Your Philodendron Scandens does not have any particular temperature requirements but will suffer if subjected to temperatures below 10ºC.
  • Fertiliser- Feed with general houseplant fertiliser every 2 months during the growing season (spring to summer).
  • Toxicity- Philodendron Scandens is toxic to both people and animals – keep away from small children and pets.

Plant Care

Foliage plants in general need access to bright indirect sunlight. Avoid keeping them in direct sunlight as it can cause leaves to burn due to extreme sunlight in the afternoon.

Make sure watering is done once the soil goes dry. Although the soil can remain moist, it should not turn soggy/wet. Having a drainage hole in the pots goes a long way in ensuring there is no water stagnating on top of the soil. You can spray the plant occasionally.

Fertilise the plant once a month in summers however, Don’t feed any fertiliser in winters. Giving fertiliser to the plant ensures nutrients go in which keeps it healthy. Keep an eye on the leaves of the plant to know any symptoms of watering or sunlight.
